Shopping with Momma

August 8, 2010

After mom’s foot surgery in April, another health issue that her doctor is looking into now and changes to her diet to relieve some stomach issues, my mom has lost quite a bit of weight over the last few months. She hates shopping so you know that I was really looking forward to heading down to help her get some new clothes. I may not have much of a style of my own but I’m pretty good at helping her pick out stuff (or keep her from buying ugly old lady shirts – sorry mom!)

At first mom was upset by the size she was trying on because it was so small, smaller than she’d ever been. After reassuring her that she was not “sick looking” but had changed her eating habits and was also exercising, she really began to enjoy trying on the clothes to show off the body she has now. She ended up with quite a few new outfits and was really happy with everything that she bought.

We even ended up with matching rain coats. How cute are we?!

While we were home I picked up a copy of Caitlin‘s Operation Beautiful book. I really love it and plan on purchasing a few more copies to stock in my classroom library when school starts. Lord knows a 7th grade girl needs all of the self confidence she can get! When we left this afternoon I decided to leave mom this note as a reminder of how amazing she is.

I love you momma!

Do you know about the Operation Beautiful movement? Have you ever posted or found a note?

I laughed out loud when I read this because I have zero sense of style for myself, but I LOVE forcing my mom to go shopping and picking out clothes for her!! I feel like I’m really good at it, too!

Too funny! It makes me feel better knowing I’m not the only one 🙂 Maybe we have more style than we think? Or maybe having style is just about being comfortable!

I love your Operation Beautiful note! And YES, I could have definitely used Caitlin’s book when I was in 7th grade – it would have really impacted me back then. You and your momma are so cute. 4 days Danielle!! 🙂

I also sent an email to the media specialist at school to see if we could get some of them in the media center. Fingers crossed!

      I can’t wait!

I love seeing you and your mom! What a great idea to have your book for your students. There is no better time to build up the self esteem than as a kid!
