Week 24: All Things Baby!

September 17, 2011

How big is baby?

Harper is the length of an ear of corn!

Here’s what else babycenter has to say about Harper this week:

Your baby’s growing steadily, having gained about 4 ounces since last week. That puts him at just over a pound. Since he’s almost a foot long, he cuts a pretty lean figure at this point, but his body is filling out proportionally and he’ll soon start to plump up. His brain is also growing quickly now, and his taste buds are continuing to develop. His lungs are developing “branches” of the respiratory “tree” as well as cells that produce surfactant, a substance that will help his air sacs inflate once he hits the outside world. His skin is still thin and translucent, but that will start to change soon.

So this week I totally forgot to take full belly pictures so these are the only two that we have.

How am I changing?

I’m up two more pounds for a total weight gain of 18 pounds. At least I can finally blame a pound of that on Harper since she’s just over a pounds now 🙂 It really has been amazing to see my belly grow as she grows. It totally brings a smile to my face. I find myself resting my hand on my belly through out the day as she wiggles around inside. Even at 24 weeks it’s still so surreal knowing that there is a little one growing in there!

This week I bought an extender for my bra and did a little happy dance as it fits so much better now. I swear that they are making up a good five pounds of my weight gain. Yes, I just said that out loud. Even my friend Rachel, whom I love and adore, is amazed at how much they have grown. Moving on…

How am I feeling?

I’m still continuing to feel great but there is definitely an increase in swelling at the end of the week. I don’t know if it’s just all of the standing/walking from working that catches up with me, but by the time Thursday/Friday rolls around my left foot is just a giant, swollen mess. My right foot rarely swells, which according to my Dr. has something to do with the way that blood flows in our bodies. He commonly hears about the left foot swelling and assured me it was totally normal, even if it is weird to me.

What am I eating?

Everything! This Friday Carl and I celebrated the end of the week by joining some friends at a Mexican restaurant down town. Hilary and Jeff brought along Piper and we all loved having her along. She is such a cutie and I can’t believe how big she’s gotten since she was born. Yes, I know that babies grow and change but it’s just amazing to see how much bigger she is now compared to when she was first born. What a miracle life truly is!

Buying for baby

This weekend Carl and I bought Harper’s crib! Originally we picked out one from Ikea but since they recalled them because of the new safety laws that went into effect in June we decided to go ahead and get one from Target since they were on sale.

I’m going to do a separate post about the nursery later today or tomorrow so you’ll see a little more then 🙂 I will say, though, that having the crib in the nursery brings such a big smile to both of our faces and makes the whole pregnancy seem much more real. We’re having a baby!

I cannot wait to see the nursery! And your Piper shout out was awesome. I love that you love her as much as we do! I am getting so excited to meet Miss Harper. December needs to hurry up already!
